If you ever have to make an emergency swimming ascent, you ditch your weights, gently bleed out excess air as you ascend.
Upon reaching the surface, you use the oral inflation tube to inflate the vest as much as required. Regardless as to your initial attitude upon reaching the surface, the air bladders positioning will right the diver so that his airway is always above the surface.
This is particularly helpful when the diver loses consciousness or is simply fatigued (say the dive master didn't get a proper nose count before he headed the dive boat back to port and you are left treading water for hours, perhaps over night).
Rear-bladder type vests have an inherent stability that forces the divers airway INTO the water, which is great if you are a dolphin, absolutely dangerous if you are a fatigued or unconscious diver on the surface.
Think about it.
