Underwater camera: digital versus film

As the digital underwater camera market continutes to grow, digital imaging is quickly replacing film for the vast majority of underwater photography. This is because the advantages of digital imaging more than outweigh those of film.

Digital Underwater Camera advantages:

  • Underwater Digital Cameras Almost unlimited pictures – no running out of film
  •  View and confirm results underwater
  •  No cost for film or processing – cheaper in the long run
  • REEFMASTER RC CAMERA Easy to control and adjust images in computer
  •  Simple to duplicate and send images

Film advantages

  •  Lower initial cost (especially with many used systems on the market)
  •  No need to bring a computer on your dive trips
Besides the essentials, there are a lot of scuba diving gear that can make your dives more fun, interesting, and comfortable. The best way to make your dives more fun and interesting is to invest in one of our underwater cameras like the DC600 Sea Life Camera. Take pictures of your dive buddies to show off at the office when you get back. Test out your artistic side by capturing photos of the beautiful sealife you encounter. And of course, let someone else get a few shots of you on your dive. When you return, you will be able to visit your scuba memories any time by pulling out these photos. Other scuba gear that can make your dive go smoother include dive lights, collection bags, a dive knife, and dive flags. More articles about Purchasing scuba equipment online.

How To Get Great Pictures With Your Underwater Camera

One way to capture the beauty of your diving or snorkeling experience is through the lens of an underwater camera. The underwater camera comes in a digital format or a film format for traditionalists. To help you get the best shots with your underwater camera, we’ve compiled a few tips.
  1. Practice, taking pictures requires some work to get it right. Start by trying out your underwater camera at different depths. Take pictures at various distances. And don’t forget to get up close to take some truly exquisite shots of underwater life.
  2. Think about framing your shot. Choose photos that show high contrasting colors. Capture details like rising bubbles in the water’s surface. For most shots, four to five feet of distance should suit your photo well. If you’re taking a photo of a diver and the fish, frame the shot from two to four feet away.
  3. Be patient. Sometimes it takes some waiting to find the perfect timing for that ideal underwater photo.
  4. Objects appear 33 percent larger underwater than they really are. Remember not to underestimate your shooting distance.
  5. The deeper you go, the more colors like red, yellow, and orange get filtered out. Your underwater shots will appear more blue as you go deeper.
  6. Avoid stirring up sand so that you don’t have debris scattered in your shot.
  7. Use an external light source or flash to bring color back into your underwater shots.
