I bought this knife (drop point) when I was certified back in 2002, at the Charlotte NC shop. I've logged over 500 dives with it, in fresh and salt water, from the tropics to Lake Michigan in January. And it's on my leg every time I free dive and spearfish, to brain, and oftentimes, gut and scale the fish on my way back to shore.
What to say about the actual knife?
It works. Period. It's super light, and requires a sum total of ZERO maintenance. The beauty of titanium. It's totally non reactive, and cannot rust. Once in awhile I hone the edge. And because Titanium is so light, if you drop the knife, it doesn't just plummet to the ocean floor like a stainless steel one does, but you have time to react, and grab it.
The edge is good, the drop point, viciously sharp. The line cutter at the base of the blade works as advertised, and the serrated back is excellent for sawing through thicker ropes and nets, as well as working as a great fish scaler. It disassembles easily, if you do want to do a more thorough cleaning.
The only knock I have seen in other reviews, is there is a plastic keeper as part of the locking system that secures the blade to the hilt. People say it's a weak point, that will fail. Bullcrap. If you use your knife as a hammer, chisel or prybar, it may fail at some point. It's a titanium dive knife folks, not an oyster bar. And in the lifetime of my knife, I HAVE used the butt to hammer together keepers on my speargun, etc, cut through miles of lost netting cleaning local dive sites, and to kill and clean countless fish, from 100 lb sailfish to 3 lb pompano.
If you use your knife as a knife? Well, again, mine is 14 years old, and I'm buying my second one... not because anything happened to my first, but because I want a second so I can keep my free dive and scuba gear separate. I'm also ordering a third, for one of my best friends.
So again. If you need a dive knife, and want one that works great, lasts forever, and requires zero maintenance?
Buy the UK Blue Tang Titanium. It'll be the last dive knife you ever order.
