You can’t communicate with words underwater. When you want to ‘talk’ with your dive buddy, you need to use hand signals, a common language that you both understand.

These standardized gestures are the universal language of diving. They even let divers from different countries, backgrounds, and training organizations communicate clearly and effectively underwater.

So, let’s take a look at the diving hand signals every diver needs to know, from basic safety communications to specialized signals for marine life encounters and photography. These signals can make your scuba diving safer and more enjoyable.

  7. Computer Buying Guide

    What is a Dive Computer?

In simple terms, a dive computer is a device used by a scuba diver to measure the time and depth of a dive based on a pre-programmed algorithm. In reality, today a dive computer is as important a piece of diving equipment as your regulator. It constantly calculates and displays a safe dive profile and ascent rate for you so you can avoid decompression sickness.

Why Should You Buy A Dive Computer:

Again simply put, a Dive Computer extends your bottom time. In contrast to dive tables that only calculate “square diving profiles" based on your MAX DEPTH and MAX TIME after your dive. Your dive computer continuously calculates based on your ACTUAL DEPTH and ACTUAL TIME during your dive. Their ability to automatically measure your depths and time, meaning they are able to warn you that you're approaching your max NDL or Bottom-time, warn you of an excessive Ascent Rate and even help time your Safety Stop. Dive computers also allow you to more accurately calculate

  10. Scuba Mask Guide

In the market to purchase a Scuba Mask?

Learning the components of the scuba mask and their use will help you make the best descision.  The human eye cannot focus in water, the mask provides an air pocket so your eyes can focus and you can see clearly underwater. The Skirt of the mask must seal to your face to provide this air pocket.  The mask encloses your nose to allow you to equilize your air spaces during all pressure changes.  Because swim goggles do not enclose the nose and have no way for you to equalize they cannot be used for Snorkeling or Scuba Diving.  Always look for tempered glass, plastic fogs up and standard glass is hazardous if accidentally broken. Fit and comfort are very important to check before you choose the your mask.  The skirt of the mask should wrap around your eye area with no gaps and seal from leakage.  See our video on How to Properly Fit a Mask.
