Good Day Nancy, No this would not work as a good Rope cutter. This device is for use on smaller in diameter lines no much thicker than a shoe lace, or car seat belt.
Yes all of the EEZYCUT Trilobite cutters do come with a sheath.

The trilobite fits right onto my computer wrist strap, and my chest strap. It works great for what I use it for in a small package.

The product speaks for itself—it’s a “go to” for diving cutters. The service from the company was fast and efficient. Headed to Bonaire next month, so that’ll be the first time the trilobite will be in use, and hopefully just along for the ride with nothing to cut.
