To preface this review I must say that I have tried on well over 100 different masks looking for a good fit. I have a very mean face with high cheek bones, a pronounced forehead ridge and generally sharp features. Add in that I have facial hair and it is a recipe for lots of leaking or a mask frame literally giving me pressure headaches from pressure on the bridge of my nose and forehead.
That preface of shape out of the way. ..
This mask fits incredibly well. I purchased this mask for freediving and breathhold spearfishing. My first use was doing dynamic apnea training in the pool. I immediatly noticed that not only was it a comfortable fit, but also a leak free one.
My swims went well enough that I thought it needed a scuba test as well.
So with that in mind I took the mask to work where I used it in place of my usual Scubapro Solo mask. The solo had been the only comfortable and well seeling mask I had found and was my safe go to. As a divemaster in a busy Aquarium environment it is critical I am able to see clearly and have minimal distractions. A good field of view and easy clearing also mean a lot when I am trying to keep guests safe and the animals protected.
In the water I found that I didn't have to put any thought into equalizing the mask. There just wasn't a noticable need to equalize the air space and accordingly no squeeze or discomfort. Additionally, clearing the mask after flooding to rinse it was a simple one blast affair that fully drained the mask
Despite the lenses being so closeto my eyes I didn't notice any contact to my eye lashes which was a nice change from other ultra low volume masks I have tried on.
So in general I am incredibly happy with the fit, form, and function of the mask.
My only complaints would be that if you go too heavy on the defog I have found eyes become easily irritated somehow. This wasn't an issue with my higher volume masks or less viscous defogs in the Viper.
A second would be that while it hasn't given me any trouble as of yet, the mask strap feels a little delicate abd lacking in thickness.
I am so happy to have finally found a great fitting low volume mask that I plan to purchase an additional three so that I can leave my current brown one with my freedive/spearfishing kit, have one perminantly at work, and replace my primary and back up masks in my SCUBA kit.
