It would provide a little buoyancy but not nearly as much as a life jacket.
With the measurements give that falls into the large size in the Neosport 2.5mm Men Neoprene Vest although the waist would be a little big. You maybe able to go down a size do to the neoprene in the X-span suit are designed to stretch more

The Neosport 2.5mm Men Neoprene Vest is perfect for layering under your wetsuit. It gives me the extra warmth I need when diving the Florida springs. I also use my Neosport 2.5mm Men Neoprene Vest for my other water sports (kayaking and skiing) in the early Spring.
