The SCUBAPRO S-Tek Spinner Spool (Base SKU Series: 40.202.XXX / SCU-40.202.XXX) is a technical dive line spool designed with static central spinner discs that eliminate the spin-out friction common to traditional spools.
Styled to evoke SCUBAPRO’s classic G250 second stage faceplate, it delivers controlled line deployment and retrieval for deploying surface marker buoys (SMBs), navigation gap filling, and safety line installation
Standard finger spools rely on the entire body spinning against a diver's gloved fingers during deployment, which can lead to dropped spools or line tangles.
The S-Tek Spinner Spool features independent center discs mounted on a stainless steel axle.
The center discs remain static in your grip while the outer spool spins freely around them as line plays out.
By applying inward thumb-and-finger pressure on the static discs, you create a variable "disc brake" effect to adjust line tension on the fly.
Every cave diver wants a reel to be easy to operate, last thing a cave diver needs is to worry about having issues while using their reels. Evoking the distinctive design of SCUBAPRO's classic G250 second stage, these premium spinner spools are super easy to use. The key to each spool's user-friendliness can be found in the exclusive SCUBAPRO-branded spinner discs located at the center point of the spool; the discs remain static while the spool spins and the line plays out. Consequently, the spool will not try to rotate out of your hand like normal spools do, allowing for a more secure grip while playing out line. You can adjust the tension on the line by squeezing the spinner discs together, forming a disc brake effect. Made of durable injection-molded fiberglass reinforced nylon with a stainless steel axle and screws, the body of the spool is designed so that it can be easily clipped off to a bolt snap.
You know when you buy ScubaPro, you expect the best. This spinner spool is no exception to that rule! Each Scubapro S-Tek Spinner Spool comes standard with a stainless-steel double end gated spring-loaded bolt snap clip for easy attachment to gear. Spools are available in three-line lengths of 50', 100', and 150' (15m, 30m, and 45m) depending on your line deployment needs. The spools weigh 4.8 oz., 6.4 oz., and 8 oz. (136g, 181g, and 226.8g) respectively. As with many of the Scubapro S-Tek products the Spinner Spools can be customized to match your gear with the Spinner Spool Color Kits (sold separately).
Operational Tips & Pro Tricks
Mastering the "Disc Brake" Technique: Hold the spool by pinching the static center discs between your thumb and index finger. When an inflated SMB pulls line upward, gradually increase pinch pressure on the discs to apply smooth braking without burning or pinching your fingers on a spinning rim.
Locking the Line Post-Deployment: Once your SMB reaches the surface, loop the free line through one of the outer perimeter slots and secure it with the included double-ended bolt snap. This locks the spool depth and keeps line taut while completing safety or decompression stops.
Cold Water / Thick Glove Operation: The static center discs provide a firm grip surface even when wearing $5 ext{ mm}$ or $7 ext{ mm}$ neoprene gloves or drysuit gloves, eliminating the need to insert a gloved finger through a narrow center hole.
Preventing Line Birdnesting: Never overfill the spool with replacement line. Leaving $1/8 ext{ inch}$ ($3 ext{ mm}$) of clearance between the outer line layer and the spool rim prevents line from slipping over the edge and tangling around the axle.
Post-Dive Maintenance: Unroll deployed line, rinse the spool assembly in fresh water, and let both line and spool dry completely before re-winding under light tension to prevent salt build-up around the internal axle.
