Our Scuba Gear Buying Guide

Scuba diving equipment adapts you to the underwater world and makes you part of it. You do the diving, but your scuba gear makes it possible. That is, a mask doesn’t see for you, but allows you to see underwater. A dive regulator doesn’t breathe for you, but allows you to breathe underwater. A wetsuit doesn’t make heat, but allows a body to more effectively retain its own heat. Browse this section to learn more about how to choose scuba gear that :

  • Is comfortable for you
  • Fits you well and looks good
  • Will be a long-term investment for the type of diving you plan to do.

The Gear You Need Depends on Where You Scuba Dive

Get equipped for all your scuba diving adventures.  You can dive almost anywhere there’s water. The gear you use will vary somewhat depending upon your diving environment, as well as your preferences. There are four general categories for dive equipment, but some gear fits in all the categories – for example the mask you use for tropical diving is probably for temperate or cold water diving, too.

  7. Scuba Mask Guide

In the market to purchase a Scuba Mask?

Learning the components of the scuba mask and their use will help you make the best descision.  The human eye cannot focus in water, the mask provides an air pocket so your eyes can focus and you can see clearly underwater. The Skirt of the mask must seal to your face to provide this air pocket.  The mask encloses your nose to allow you to equilize your air spaces during all pressure changes.  Because swim goggles do not enclose the nose and have no way for you to equalize they cannot be used for Snorkeling or Scuba Diving.  Always look for tempered glass, plastic fogs up and standard glass is hazardous if accidentally broken. Fit and comfort are very important to check before you choose the your mask.  The skirt of the mask should wrap around your eye area with no gaps and seal from leakage.  See our video on How to Properly Fit a Mask.

  9. Scuba Fins Guide

    Understanding Scuba and Snorkeling Fins?

Scuba Fins are an important part of the diving and snorkeling experience. They are like the engine in your car.  Our feet simply aren't made for propelling the human body through the water. Fins help us do that by transfering more energy from our legs to propel us through the water. With the proper pair of fins, the legs do all the work and hands are only used to make small adjustments. While fins are important for casual snorkelers they are essential for scuba diving. With the extra drag of the scuba equipment and the necessity to precisely control movement, having the right set of fins is paramount. This guide should help you deciding on the proper fin design and options for your watersport experience.
